Role of Statins in the Management of COVID 19

ABSTRACT

Statins are drugs that were developed for the management of dyslipidemias, however, other effects of them have been described, which have been called pleiotropic, highlighting their anti-inflammatory actions and its effect on the levels of various cytokines, within the pleiotropic effects antiviral activity has been described.
In this review, we searched in PubMed for statin information in viral infections in general, and in COVID-19 infection in particular, analyzing the latest information available regarding both, their possible role in prophylaxis as well as in the treatment of the disease.
