Occupational Stress in the Staff of a Family Medicine Unit During the COVID-19 Pandemic

ABSTRACT
Objective: To determine the level of occupational stress and its association with anxiety and depression in the staff of the Family Medicine Unit (FMU) No.1 in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico. Methods: An observational, cross-sectional and analytical study was carried out.130 out of 370 permanent workers from various areas of the UMF participated such as: doctors, nurses, assistants, office assistants, chemists, dentists, social workers, coordinators of technical services, technical support staff, warehouse staff, etc. who worked during the COVID-19 pandemic. A general data survey, the OIT-WHO Work Stress Questionnaire, the Beck Anxiety Inventory and the Beck BDI-II Depression Inventory were used with them. Results: 35% of the workers from the FUM participated. Female gender predominated (59.2%); the minimum age of participation was 22 years, and the maximum was 62 years. Regarding the working day, the “morning shift” was the most frequent: 55.4%. Stress was identified in 16.1%; severe anxiety in 2.3% and moderate depression in 2.3%. When associating the variable work stress with anxiety, the results were RM = 2.143 (CI: 0.510-9.001) p= 0.381, regarding the association of the variable work stress with depression, The results were RM= 4.143 (CI: 1.056-17.469) p=0.029. Conclusions: Despite finding a low level of occupational stress, anxiety and depression; an association between occupational stress/depression was found.REFERENCES
