ABSTRACT
The use of treatments with exogenous substances (called filling
materials or fillers) for therapeutic purposes in facial cosmetics,
is increasingly common in different medical specialties. One
of the infrequent, but possible complications is occlusion by
embolus in arteries of structures near the infiltration site; in
this event, the possibility of blocking ocular irrigation has been
reported, and the consequence can be as serious as iatrogenic
blindness. The purpose of this review is to present the measures
recommended in the current literature, to execute immediate
maneuvers in order to reestablishment the ocular perfusion,
avoiding irreversible damage to visual function.
