ABSTRACT
Erythema elevatum diutinum is an unusual, chronic, leukocytoclastic vasculitis of unknown etiology. Clinically it is manifested by papules, plaques and erythematous-violaceous nodules, of hard consistency, symmetrical and usually located on the extensor surfaces of the extremities, close to the joints. Diagnosis is based on clinical and histopathologic findings. We report a case of a 49-year-old woman, black skin color, with erythematous-violaceous nodules on the dorsum of the hands, elbows, forearms, knees and buttocks for approximately three and a half years. Histopathological study revealed a leukocytoclastic vasculitis confirming the clinical suspicion of erythema elevatum diutinum. The case is presented due to the rarity of this entity in our environment.
