ABSTRACT
Introduction: Facial biostimulation with platelet-rich plasma is a current method, with wide use in the first world for cosmetic purposes and, only in some countries where preventive and humanistic medicine is practiced for health purposes, especially for skin rejuvenation, as part of regenerative therapies. Objective: To perform an update on the use of platelet-rich plasma as a skin rejuvenator in facial biostimulation.
Methods: A bibliographic search of the use of platelet-rich plasma as a skin renewer was carried out through the telematic health network Cuba, Infomed, Google Scholar, SciELO, PubMed Central, Medline, and Clinicalkey, in English and Spanish. The descriptors used were: cutaneous regeneration and platelet-rich plasma. During the review process, 15 articles were cited, with more than 50% updated in the last 5 years.
Conclusions: Facial biostimulation with platelet-rich plasma using mesotherapy is a simple and economical method. It can be performed on an outpatient basis, and free of complications because it works with autologous material, with which positive changes in skin regeneration are achieved. The use of platelet-rich plasma has very positive results, but there are few quality clinical trials that allow accrediting the standardization of its use in dermatology.
