ABSTRACT
About up to 90% of poisonings at home are accidental and drugs are the main cause,
followed by cleaning products; however, in pediatric age, the latter are the main xenobiotics
involved. Recently and in the midst of a health contingency, accidental exposure
to caustics, alcohols, sanitizers, etc. has increased; this favored by the obsession with
cleaning and disinfection without measuring the risks inherent in misuse. The toxic
potential of all these substances depends on their composition, the amount of product
with which they have been in contact, their concentration, the time of exposure and
the previous illnesses of the affected person.
