ABSTRACT
Chronic mercury poisoning is a pathology that is very rare to diagnose in clinical practice. This is not only because the low incidence of cases, but also due to the difficulty that exists in making an accurate and timely diagnosis when facing a disease that presents itself with very nonspecific and multisystemic manifestations like the symptoms that are present when facing an intoxication by this metal. Insufficient knowledge and the lack of questioning during the clinical history about the risk factors are among the causes that lead not including this pathology during the differential diagnosis. During this article it is reviewed the clinical case of a young man from a rural area with very nonspecific clinical chronic manifestations that are primarily neurologic also with complementary studies that provide very little data to discern the pathology itself, posteriorly the inclusion of heavy metal poisoning as a differential diagnosis and the requesting of a specific urine mercury testing revealed very high levels of mercury on urine.REFERENCES
