ABSTRACT
Objective: To identify the factors associated with a short intergenic period in pregnant women enrolled in a Family Medicine Unit in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico. Methods: A cross-sectional, analytical, and prospective observational study was carried out from March 2021 to February 2022 in which pregnant women with a history of at least one pregnancy were studied, these women were chosen by non-probabilistic convenience sampling. Two groups were selected: One group consisted of pregnant women with a short intergenic period while the other consisted of pregnant women with intergenic periods longer than 24 months. Results: 142 pregnant women divided into two groups were studied. The average ages were 27.09 ± 5.35 years for the first group and 29.61 ± 5.56 for the second. When associating the short intergenic period with the non-acceptance of a family planning method after the obstetric event, a result of RM 22.2, IC 95% 9.31-52.95 and p=0.0001 was obtained, when relating to the multiple- pregnancies variable a value of RM 1.97, IC 95 was recorded. % 1.01-3.85 and p=0.044, when linking with the age of the pregnant woman equal to or greater than 28 years, the result RM 0.503 was obtained, 95% CI 0.258-0.983 and p=0.043 and with the occupation of housewife a value of RM 2.03, 95% CI 0.996-4.15, p=0.05. Conclusions: In this study, the short intergenic period was associated with the non-acceptance of a family planning method after the obstetric event, with a history of multiple pregnancies, with an age less than 28 years and with a housewife occupation.REFERENCES
