ABSTRACT
Introduction: Subclinical hypothyroidism, like metabolic syndrome, are considered important pathologies for medical practice. The first is an organic dysfunction of the thyroid gland and the other is insulin resistance and oxidative stress. The same that together are associated with important comorbidities in the patient affecting their quality of life. Methods: In a total of 1402 consultations, between 2019 and 2022, 582 patients were studied, obtaining a total of 161 patients for the statistical sample. Evaluating them with the criteria of the latest BMJ and ATA guidelines respectively, studying the incidence of metabolic syndrome through clinical and biochemical parameters.
Results: It was distributed in two groups and 2 subgroups respectively, showing a higher incidence of patients with metabolic syndrome, compared to the general population. The mean age was (42 ± 12.519), group 2 (42.16 ± 12.875), without observing statistical differences (t=.119 and t=.266). They present a correlation (Rho spearman1=.108) and (Rho spearman2=-.90). A BMI (31.62 ± 7.96 kg/m2), group 2 (32.76 ± 6.59 kg/m2). Patients in treatment were analyzed with Fisher's exact test (f1= .355 and f2=.878) and a (RR of 1.97) on the risk of comorbidities compared to the population (p › 0.0001).
Conclusion: In the population, there is an important association between these pathologies and other comorbidities, reflecting the high prevalence of obesity, diabetes, and arterial hypertension in the face of the current condition of our country. Thus, explaining the importance of finding effective and adaptable therapies for our community.
