Presentation of a case of testicular teratoma

ABSTRACT

Testicular teratoma is an infrequent condition, representing 5% of the germ cell tumors. The purpose of the article is to describe a case of malignant testicular teratoma. A case is presented of a male 22-year-old patient who reported pain and increased volume in his right testicle after experiencing a genital trauma. Physical examination found pain at palpation, and increased size and consistency in the testicle. Treatment was applied without a favorable evolution. Blood chemistry and tumor markers were within normal limits. Ultrasonography and computerized axial tomography revealed the presence of a right testicular tumor. Inguinal orchiectomy was performed with high spermatic cord ligation and right superficial inguinal lymphadenectomy. Histological testing showed the presence of a cystic teratoma with atypical and immature elements, a low degree of malignancy and no lymph nodes. In conclusion, early diagnosis combined with surgical treatment, chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy, raise the survival rate and delay the occurrence of metastasis.
