ABSTRACT
Umbilical hernia is the pathology that occurs most frequently in children and older adults, where approximately up to 10% of infants will suffer from this pathology. It is estimated that 8 out of 10 days affected children will be able to overcome this condition by physiological mechanisms before 3 years of age. While, in adults, about 90% of those affected occur due to weakness in the abdominal wall, especially in the area surrounding the navel.
It is considered a benign condition, which can be subjected to surgical treatment, being considered the most frequently performed surgery; however, there is a risk that patients suffer from certain complications, such as intense pain in the umbilical area, in addition to the fact that
this area will take on a reddish hue, which could be triggered secondary to an acute intestinal occlusion, which will undoubtedly require an emergency surgery.
