ABSTRACT
Introduction: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) causes functional,
personal and social impact. Its association with fractures is little studied in Mexico.
Objective: To determine the history of fractures suggested by ADHD in undiagnosed
patients aged 5 to 10 years.
Patients and Methods: Comparative observational, cross-sectional study in patients
aged 5-10 years without diagnosis of ADHD; two groups were formed (with and
without history of fracture). SNAP-IV was applied to evaluate ADHD.
Results: A total of 206 patients were recruited. Group A: 106 children with a history
of fracture, mean age was 7.56 years, males predominated 65%, the most frequent
fracture site was upper limbs 57.5% and ADHD present in 66%. Group B: 100 patients
with no history of fracture, mean age was 7.56 years, male predominated 66%, presence
of ADHD in 44%. SNAP IV showed differences in total score, and by domains.
The presence of ADHD 66% in group A and 44% in group B, χ
2=10.111 p=0.001,
OR=2.47 (IC95% 0.230-0.710), Phi-V=0.222, CC=0.216.
Conclusions: There is an association between ADHD and the presence of fractures
in children aged 5-10. Those with ADHD are 2.5 more times risk of fracture.
