Platelet-rich plasma infiltrations as an alternative treatment in musculoskeletal conditions

ABSTRACT
Platelet-rich plasma is obtained by centrifuging a quantity of the patient's blood and extracting the active platelet-rich fraction, which is applied to the injured tissue. Joint infiltration has been introduced to treat a growing number of musculoskeletal diseases. The aim of the article is to feature a review on the use of platelet-rich plasma injections as an alternative treatment in musculoskeletal disorders. To achieve this purpose, electronic and library searches of national and foreign medical journals indexed in SciELO, Imbiomed and Pubmed were carried out over a 10-year horizon. On this subject, thesis on completion of studies and textbooks with information in Spanish and English were consulted. It was concluded that the use of platelet-rich plasma is a useful alternative in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions.
