ABSTRACT
The cleft lip-palate is the most common congenital malformation. In Mexico, male patients have been seen. While female women have a higher incidence on the isolated palate.
Objectives: To describe the etiology of this malformation, as well as to present the epidemiology, clinical picture, classification, diagnosis and updated multidisciplinary treatment.
Methods: A descriptive observational study was carried out through the systematic search of PubMed and EBSCO, using the search terms: Cleft lip, Cleft lip and palate, Cleft palate, Congenital anomalies. Selecting the most relevant articles that you had in a relevant investigation. 29 articles were obtained as a final sample.
Results: In Mexico, the incidence between 1/2,000 and 1/5,000 births per year. It can be produced in an isolated, combined, unilateral or bilateral way and is caused by genetic and environmental factors. The diagnosis is given by a third-dimensional ultrasound, analyzing facial anatomical structures. The treatment is multidisciplinary, directed mainly by the area of reconstructive surgery.
Conclusions: It is important for the mother and the doctor to carry out the appropriate prenatal control, preventing any condition that conditions the maternal and perinatal morbidity.
