ABSTRACT
Sporotrichosis is a mycosis caused by a dimorphic fungus of the
Sporothrix
schenckii complex. Localized lymphocutaneous sporotrichosis
represents up to 95% of the cases and it is the most
frequent form, but disseminated cutaneous forms are so rare.
We report a 62-year-old female from Puebla, Mexico, with
disseminated cutaneous sporotrichosis with an 8-year history,
without specific treatment. The diagnosis of sporotrichosis
caused by
S. schenckii sensu stricto was established through the
isolation of the pathogen and its identification through PCR. The
patient was treated with potassium iodide successfully.
