ABSTRACT
The meconium pseudocyst consists of a dilated portion
of the intestine, filled with meconium. The “eggshell calcifications”
are pathognomonic. Clinical case: 35-weeks-
of-gestation female, weight 3460 g, head circumference
32 cm. Abdominal perimeter 41 cm. At birth with
a marked abdominal distention, the radiology showed
an abdominal cystic mass. At laparotomy, a giant meconium
pseudocyst and ileal atresia were documented, it
was removed, release of the intestinal loops and end-toend
anastomosis of the ileum were performed. He also
had polymicrogyria, pulmonary hypertension and atrial
septal defect. She was discharged 22 days later due to
improvement. The meconium pseudocyst is a differential
diagnosis of cystic lesions. Intra-abdominal calcifications
associated with a cystic mass may correspond
to a meconium pseudocyst. The absence of a characteristic
“eggshell calcifications” image does not rule out a
meconium pseudocyst.
