ABSTRACT
Mucormycosis is caused by opportunistic fungi belonging to the order Mucorales. It presents predisposingly in patients
with diabetes mellitus. We report the case of a 48-year-old woman, recently diagnosed diabetic with a history
of COVID-19 and extraction of an upper right molar; She later presented headache, right hemifacial edema, otalgia and
decreased visual acuity in the right eyeball, with paralysis of cranial nerves II, III, IV and VI. A culture was performed
that was positive for mucor and a nasal tissue biopsy with compatible images of cryptococcus.
