ABSTRACT

Cat-scratch disease (CSD) is a zoonotic disease, caused by Bartonella henselae, that has variable clinical presentation, affecting immunocompetent and inmunocompromised patients. 80% to 90% have typical manifestations (history of scratch or bite, papule or pustule at the inoculation site, adenopathy, fever, headache, and rash), 5% to 20% have atypical manifestations (prolonged fever, eye involvement, hepatosplenic compromise among others); this is an infectious disease that is difficult to diagnose and therefore requires high clinical suspicion. In the article, a review of the literature is carried out, emphasizing the clinical presentation, the methods to confirm the diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
