There is a widespread awareness all over the world of the fact that health inequities are responsible, among others, for a difference of more than 20 and up to 30 years in life expectancy between the poorest and the most privileged social classes. Not to mention the huge abyss in the quality of life and wellbeing. For more than 50 years, some of the best recognized Latin American public health scientists have been developing foundational studies towards the theoretical framework of the social determination of health.
