ABSTRACT
Portal pneumatosis is a rare radiological finding that can be produced by a large number of etiologies, being the most common intestinal ischemia. A 75-year-old female patient, with a history of chronic kidney disease, who underwent hemodialysis approximately 3 years ago, is presented. One week before the worsening, she was hospitalized in the Nephrology service at Arnaldo Milián Castro Clinical Surgical University Provincial Hospital of Villa Clara, Cuba, with a diagnosis of intravascular sepsis. Subsequently, she began to present generalized and severe abdominal pain, signs of shock and cognitive deterioration. An abdominal ultrasound was performed and it showed hyperechogenic images in the lumen of the portal vessels, predominantly towards the left hepatic lobe. An emergency abdominal tomography was performed confirming the presence of portal pneumatosis. The patient dies five days later. Imaging studies are useful for the diagnosis of this entity.REFERENCES
