The pedagogical professional training of the tutor for intermediate technicians in public health entities

ABSTRACT
Introduction: The professional pedagogical training of the tutor for intermediate technician students constitutes a cornerstone to promote on-the-job training in public health entities. During some time, tutors have shown insufficient preparation to play their role as educator in health entities, due to the fact that they grant more privilege to their role as health service providers.Objective: To propose a professional pedagogical training procedure for the tutors of the intermediate technicians in public health entities, so that it contributes to the improvement of this process in a systematic and continuous way.
Methods: A pre-experimental quantitative research was carried out, based on a sample of 30 tutors for intermediate technicians working in public health entities of Holguín municipality, by means of intentional sampling. The tutor performance observation method and the Chi-squared test were used.
Results: An improvement was seen in the professional pedagogical performance of the tutors for intermediate technicians when they fulfilled their role as educator, taking into account the combination of instructive, educational and developing aspects of their function.
Conclusions: The procedure provided a logical pattern to be followed in the professional training of tutors for intermediate technicians in public health entities, with a combination of the roles as service provider and educator, taking into account the links between instructive, educational and developing aspects.
