ABSTRACT
Hepatocellular adenoma (HCA) is a benign hepatocellular neoplasm that develops in a normal appearing liver. It commonly occurs in women and can appear sporadically in men. It is related to the use of medications that contain estrogen, such as oral contraceptives, and other risk factors. In general, its clinical presentation is asymptomatic and is usually incidentally found on imaging tests. The classification is based on genotypic and phenotypic characteristics. Management is decided according to the presence of symptoms, the patient sex, size and progression. Complications might include, intraperitoneal hemorrhage due to rupture of the hepatic adenoma, requiring the need of surgical intervention.
