ABSTRACT
Introduction: the COVID-19 pandemic has caused stress, burnout, anxiety, depression in health personnel, which could affect their physical and mental well-being.
Objective: to determine labor stress in nursing personnel of the Hospital de Especialidades "Dr. Bernardo Sepúlveda Gutiérrez" before and after application of vaccine against COVID-19, and identify if there is a relation with demographic and labor characteristics, with chronic diseases and with care for patients with COVID-19.
Material and methods: retrospective observational study performed with 122 nursing professionals with complete vaccination schedule with Pfizer-BioNTech. Sociodemographic data was collected and a questionnaire on psychosomatic problems associated with stress was applied, recording symptoms before and after application of the vaccine. McNemar test and chi squared tests were used.
Results: labor stress diminished after application of the vaccine against COVID-19, and there was no relation with sociodemographic characteristics, with the presence of chronic diseases or with the care given to patients with COVID-19. However, it was greater in general nurses and assistant heads.
Conclusions: labor stress in nursing personnel diminished after application of the COVID-19 vaccine.
