ABSTRACT
Introduction: Cerebrovascular events represent one of the main causes of morbidity. There are cardiovascular risk factors associated with its development that affect activities of daily living. Objective: To elaborate an educational guide for the prevention of cardiovascular risk factors in activities of daily life of patients with cerebrovascular event.
Methods: An observational, descriptive, non-experimental and field research was developed, aimed at the implementation of an educational guide for the prevention of cardiovascular risk factors in 250 patients with cerebrovascular events, treated at the General Hospital of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute from the city of Milagro, Ecuador, between January 2018 and August 2019. To collect information from the medical records, a data collection form was validated by expert judgments and Cronbach's alpha, with a value of 0.79.
Results: The male gender, age group between 40 and 50 years of age and the type of retirement insurance predominated. The cardiovascular risk factors observed in activities of daily living were lack of physical activity and high blood pressure. Total priority dependency level was observed, determination based on the application of the FIM scale. The type of physical therapy most used were assisted movements and cognitive therapy, both with a rehabilitation time greater than 12 months.
Conclusions: Physical and occupational therapy is the cornerstone of rehabilitation, and helps the patient to regain their simple motor activities.
