ABSTRACT
Salivary tumors can develop under the same histologic morphology in any of the glands. Of these, 80% occur in the parotid gland, 10 to 15% in the submaxillary gland and 5 to 10% in the sublingual and minor salivary glands. In major salivary gland tumors, approximately 80% are benign, but in minor salivary glands 35 to 80% are malignant, with clinical and histopathologic variations. The probability of a salivary tumor being malignant increases the smaller the size of the gland in which it is located. Minor salivary gland tumors (MSGTs) are rare, accounting for 10-15% of all salivary neoplasms. Despite their relatively low frequency, MSCTs constitute a heterogeneous group of neoplasms with a wide variety of histologic types.REFERENCES
