ABSTRACT
A clinical laboratory consists of the pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical phases. In laboratory medicine, all these phases are important within the laboratory process. However, it is necessary to pay attention to the phase that encompasses all the procedures prior to the start of the laboratory tests. In this way we speak of the pre-analytical stage where the venipuncture procedure is carried out. The venipuncture procedure is performed by the phlebotomist, who has a primary role in the collection of blood samples, and as the number and complexity of laboratory tests have increased, phlebotomy has become a specialized area. In the pre-analytical stage is where most of the errors occur in a clinical laboratory and this is because the staff performing this procedure does not always have adequate knowledge and without this knowledge the venipuncture procedure is vulnerable representing more than 70% of pre-analytical errors, affecting the outcome of the patient which requires the doctor to carry out the diagnosis of the patient and with this action there is an improvement in their health.
