ABSTRACT
Introduction: COVID-19 disease is caused by the
SARS-CoV-2 type coronavirus, the pediatric population
can also be aff ected. It presents with diff erent degrees
of severity and varied clinical manifestations.
Material
and methods: Epidemiological study of cases and
controls, retrospective, observational, analytical and
cross-sectional; carried out at the Children’s Hospital of
Torreón, Coahuila Pediatric patients with an RT-PCR
test for SARS-COV-2 who required hospitalization in
the period from March to December 2020 were included.
Laboratory results, signs and symptoms were collected
from the fi les upon admission to hospitalization. In
addition to obtaining information on the management
of patients infected by SARS-COV-2 and associated
clinical syndromes.
Results: 74 patients were included in
the study, aff ected age group were those under 6 years of
age. Of the positive cases, 50% (n = 5) presented without
association with a characteristic clinical syndrome. The
group with confi rmed infection presented a signifi cantly
higher frequency of asthenia (p ‹0.01), adynamia (p
‹0.01), alterations to the general state (p ‹0.01) and
somnolence (p ‹0.01) compared to the control group.
Hemoglobin levels were lower in the infected group
(p ‹0.05), the BUN level was signifi cantly elevated in
the infected group of 7-17 years (p ‹0.01). No specifi c
management was used for the SARSCOV-2 infection.
Conclusions: Th e most aff ected age group was 0-6 years.
Th e clinical manifestations were nonspecifi c, and the
associated syndromes varied.
