ABSTRACT
Objective: to describe the modifications made during the contingency caused by COVID-19 to the subject Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, taught at the Latin American School of Medicine.Methods: a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out that detailed the necessary modifications and adjustments made in this subject, to give continuity to the 2019-2020 academic year and to comply with the sanitary provisions directed by the Ministry of Public Health. The bibliographic review was carried out through the Infomed and Google search engines, selecting 16 bibliographic sources, 87.5% (14/16) belonging to the year 2020. Theoretical methods were used to analyze the results. The study spanned from March 30 to June 26, 2020.
Results: the study modality of this subject changed from face-to-face to blended, with a weekly orientation conference and autonomous learning activities guided by the delivery of digitized questionnaires, placed on the virtual classroom platform of the subject site, where students had of lectures in Power Point format, prepared by the teachers, as well as the basic and complementary bibliography on the oriented contents. Satisfactory results were obtained in promotion (89.4%) and quality (89.7%).
Conclusions: the results of the teaching experience applied in the subject of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology during the epidemiological contingency caused by COVID-19, are satisfactory, serve to effectively address the current situation and lay the foundations for medical teaching in future emergencies sanitary.
