ABSTRACT
We report the clinical case of a 30-year-old patient with traumatic brain injury, who is treated at the Department of Neuropsychology at the International Center of Neurological Restoration (CIREN). The aims of the following research are to describe the effects of the implementation of a rehabilitation program, to restore the disorders in executive functions associated with prefrontal cortex damage. We used holistic neuropsychological rehabilitation program with integration of cognitive and behavioral strategies and interactive software (Cogniplus) during two months. In order to assess possible cognitive changes after the treatment, a post-pre intervention design was employed the following neuropsychological tests: Trail Making test, Battery of evaluation of executive and frontal functions (BANFE), Wechsler Adult Intelligence and Scale Wechsler Memory Scale (WMS). After treatment the patient had a positive change in focused attention, mental flexibility, working memory and logical memory. All these aspects have a positive impact on the patient's functional cognitive abilities. Integrative programs have positive results in the recovery of executive functions in patients with cerebral damage. We considered some important aspects for work: attention and initiative, problem-solving and working memory, self-regulation, and metacognitive skills. However, it is recommended to continue working on behavioral disorders in order to improve social integration.
