ABSTRACT
Introduction: Subtrochanteric fractures in children are rare events, most injuries occur as a result of high-energy trauma, with young male patients being the most affected.
Objective: To evaluate the clinical functionality with the HHS scale, in subtrochanteric fractures in children aged 6-15 years, comparing the ELNT treatment against proximal femur screwed plates.
Material and methods: Study: retrospective, cross-sectional. Inclusion criteria: patients aged 6-15 years, with a diagnosis of subtrochanteric fracture, through closed reduction with the use of elastic ELNT nails or open reduction with placement of proximal femur plates. Exclusion criteria: refractures and peri-implant fractures. Sample size: 18 patients.
Results: Greater functionality was presented in those operated with proximal femur plate compared to ELNT (-0.5439 p = 0.000), as well as type of implant and days of support (0.80 p = 0.000), type of implant and functionality (-0.565, p = 0.015) and time of support and functionality (-0.763 p = 0.000).
Conclusions: The functionality scale at 30 days of support shows that patients with plaque present better functionality (excellent), compared to ELNT (good), as well as consolidation and support in less time.
