Anti-Tuberculosis Chemotherapy in patients with history of living in a closed setting, Central Region of Cuba

ABSTRACT
Introduction. The Cuban goal Tuberculosis (TB) control is the 98 % of cured and 95 % proportion of successfully completed treatment.
Methods. This retrospective cohort study with central region cases TB notified, had the aim to determinate the effectivity of anti-tuberculosis drugs in patients with history of living in a closed setting during 2009-2010. To the quantitative variables were estimated standard variation with intercuartiles ranges and to the qualitative variables absolutes frequencies and percentage. To the effectivity of treatment was determinate the proportion of smear-positive pulmonary TB cases that were negative ending the treatment. In the case of smear-positive pulmonary TB and extrapulmonary TB cases it takes which complete the treatment.
Results. Of 103 analyzed outcomes cases, 90(87, 4 %) was cured and 13(12,6 %)failure. Of failure rate predominate defaulter (46,1 %). Mostly were male (99,0 %) between those aged 25-64 years and habited in Villa Clara (37,8 %) and Ciego de Ávila (31,1 %) province. The majority were smear-positive pulmonary TB (75,7 %) and 31,1 % was alcoholism addiction. Success treatment rate was 91 %, in new case was 90% and in retreatment cases was 69%.
Conclusions. that central region cases tuberculosis with history of living in a closed setting notified were male, the majority of them belonged to economically productive age group, The dates of the effectivity of anti-Tuberculosis drugs were low from National Tuberculosis Control Program goal.
