ABSTRACT
Type 2 diabetes mellitus is one of the most prevalent chronic diseases worldwide.
It is associated with a number of cardiovascular risk factors and an increased risk
of mortality due to cardiovascular disease. We reviewed 58 bibliographic references in an attempt to describe important elements for cardiovascular risk stratification and management of some risk factors in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
