ABSTRACT
Introduction: Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive technique that allows complex intrathoracic surgical intervention through minimal incisions. Objective: To describe the main results of the application of video-assisted thoracic surgery at the "Comandante Manuel Fajardo” Clinical Surgical University Hospital. Material and methods: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out on a series of hospitalized patients, in the period from October 2016 to October 2019, at the “Comandante Manuel Fajardo” University Clinical Surgical Hospital; the universe and the sample coincided with 27 patients, sociodemographic and surgical variables were analyzed. The results were collected and analyzed in tables using Microsoft Excel 2016 software. Results: There were 17 male patients (63%) and the average age was 51. The 10 pleurisy occupied the first place of surgical indications(37%). There were 13 procedures of scarification, pleurectomies with or without resection of bullae or pulmonary suture (48%) and 22 of the patients did not present postoperative complications (81.5%). The average hospital stay recorded was 4,5 days. Conclusions: The application of videothoracoscopic surgery in the selected period had successful results and similar to those proposed by other national and international studies.REFERENCES
