ABSTRACT
The interest by general physicians and dermatologist for trichology
has increased during the last years as well as the need of attention
in patients with some alopecia. It is important to know
the pharmacological principles, secondary events and contraindications
of the most used medications in trichology practice.
The goal of this article is to do a general review of the medications
used in scarring and non-scarring alopecia, that include
5-alpha reductase inhibitors such as finasteride and dutasteride,
methotrexate, isotretinoin, minoxidil and hydroxychloroquine.
