ABSTRACT
Objective: Analyze the changes in body mass index, glucose and lipids in pre-grade students.
Material and methods: A longitudinal study on medical students who completed the medical internship in a second level hospital. Measures taken were body mass index –BMI-, blood pressure, blood count, glucose, cholesterol and triglycerides in three different moments: before, during and after the year of internship. The cardiovascular risk court points were selected according the recommendations of the JNC 7. The statistical analysis was made with “t” couplet test. From twenty cases, eleven were (55%) men.
Results: A significant increment in the level of hemoglobin and decrement in glucose, cholesterol and triglycerides levels between the initial and half evaluation. The BMI showed a significant increment but not in women. The diastolic pressure had an important reduction between the middle and the final evaluation.
Conclusions: No significant increment in the cardiovascular risks were found only the BMI in male had a substantial increment. May be the hospital diet influence positively in the metabolism and protected for the cardiovascular risk.
