ABSTRACT
Kidney disease represents a serious global health problem. Its late diagnosis is one of the main concerns since it is only feasible in an advanced disease stage. The lack of clinical manifestations in the early stages of the disease and the fact that the variables usually determined in kidney function are only notably reduced in the advanced stages is the leading cause of late detection. Biochemical and molecular changes in diseased kidney tissue occur before plasma nitrogenous substances, such as creatinine and urea, begin to accumulate. Biomarkers are substances that are used as an indicator of a biological state; They must be able to be objectively measured and evaluated as an indicator of a normal biological process, pathogenic state, or response to medical treatment. Free radicals (FR) and pro-oxidants produced during acute or chronic kidney injury can further aggravate the disease's course and play a role in the pathogenesis of subsequent complications. The free oxygen radicals that mitochondria produce increase the kidneys' susceptibility to induced damage when oxidative stress occurs.
