ABSTRACT
With the new neonatological units the survival of prematures patients of 1,250 g or less have improved. This type of patients have the risk to develop retinopathy of premature that consist primary in the development of neovascularization in the peripheral retina. In almost all the cases with ROP it resolves spontoneously and a small number of patients progress to more severe stages of the disease that can lead to blindness. There are different kind of treatments that try to avoid the progression of the pathology mainly this are photocoagulation with laser and cryotherapy that can be used in the middle stages of the ROP. Other surgeries as retinopexy with scleral indentation and vitrectomy can be used in the more advances stages of ROP. Other further complications that are associated with ROP and can developed in the next years of life are amblyopia, strabismus, myopia and glaucoma.REFERENCES
