ABSTRACT
Necrotizing fasciitis of the head and neck is a rare and rapid spreading soft tissue infection of polymicrobial origin characterized by extensive necrosis and gas formation in the subcutaneous tissue and superficial fascia. The less mortality of this disease depends on early detection and early and adequate surgical treatment. Despite the arrival of vascularized free tissue grafts, the pectoralis major myocutaneous flap remains a pedunculated flap widely used for the reconstruction of soft tissue defects in the oral and maxillofacial region; being one of the main alternatives for the reconstruction of defects caused by this condition. We report a case of necrotizing fasciitis of dental origin which was reconstructed by using a pectoralis major flap and the use of platelet-rich plasma membranes, a rare case in which favorable results were obtained, this procedure was performed by the Maxillofacial Surgery Service of the "Lic. Adolfo López Mateos" Medical Center.
