ABSTRACT
The lips play a very important role in facial harmony, are two extensions of soft tissue that surround the mouth performing physiological functions such as aiding the production of sounds, feeding and producing the oral seal during swallowing. Lip defects may have different etiologies such as trauma, congenital deformities or acquired pathologies during craniofacial development which may represent a reconstructive challenge. Different surgical alternatives have been described for the aesthetic and functional correction of the labial defect, both superior and inferior, in which the Abbe flap, Estlander, Karapandzic (1974) etc., each with different indications depending on the aesthetic area of the lip a rebuild. This paper describes a clinical case of lower lip reconstruction with a Karapandzic flap secondary to a post-surgical defect of pathological etiology, with a 4-year follow-up.
