ABSTRACT
The primary open angle glaucoma is defined as an optic neuropathy with changes in the optic cup and alterations in the visual fields with or without high intraocular pressure. It represents an important public health problem. The POAG normally is asymptomatic and the early diagnose and treatment is very important to avoid the progression and possible blindness. The risk factors are: high intraocular pressure, advanced age, high blood hypertension, familiar factors and myopia. The treatment of the POAG basically consist in topical and systemic treatment of ocular hypothensors and surgery.
