Congenital cataracts

ABSTRACT
Congenital cataracts, have a particular importance as a cause of amblyopia, strabismus and nystagmus in bilateral cases. The visual problems like amblyopia depend on the size, location and density of the cataract. The causes of congenital cataracts are differents include intrauterine maternal infections, systemic diseases, hereditary disorders and intraocular disease. Cataracts in childhood not only reduce vision but also interfere with normal visual development. The management is by far, more complex than the management of cataracts in adults, the inflammatory response to surgical insults seems more pronounced the timing of surgery, the surgical technique, the choice of the aphakic correction, the power and kind intraocular lens the amblyopia management postoperative are the most important goal to achieve good and long lasting results in the children.
