ABSTRACT
Objectives: To describe the indications for permanent pacemaker placement from 2010 to 2020 at the William Pediatric Cardiocenter and to characterize the congenital or postsurgical lesions that motivated its indication.
Method: Observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study. A review of the records of the patients who received permanent pacemakers in the period studied was performed. They were distributed according to placement method and cause.
Results: werw placed 217 devices , 76% for hemodynamics or endocavitary, the rest for surgery or epicardial. The male sex predominated. Congenital atrioventricular block was the most frequent diagnosis and Tetralogy of Fallot and Mustard surgery the most related to the diagnosis of secondary block.
Conclusions: Most frequent indications for pacemaker implantation surgery occur significantly in infants and preschool patients. The indication for surgery or epicardial is reserved for patients in whom the option is difficult due to hemodynamics.
