ABSTRACT
Introduction: the extrapulmonary manifestations that are
most frequently associated with COVID-19 disease are dermatological,
of which alopecia has been little described despite being
common during or after infection, as dermatologists we must
be alert for recognition and treatment.
Objective: to know the different types of alopecia associated
with a SARS-COV-2 infection reported in the literature.
Methods: the information search was carried out through
PubMed, using different MeSH terms, with articles published in
the period from March 2020 to June 2021.
Results: a total of 23 articles were obtained, some were found
in more than one search criteria. Most of these articles mention
telogen effluvium and androgenetic alopecia.
Conclusions: skin manifestations by SARS-COV-2 have been
reported more frequently in recent months, being alopecia
one of them. To date, a specific pattern of alopecia has not
been recognized in patients with acute, late manifestations or
sequelae derived from this disease. Cohorts and clinical trials are
required to clarify the cutaneous manifestations that affect the
skin appendages, including hair diseases.
