Multiple clear cell acanthoma: A case report and review

ABSTRACT

Clear cell acanthoma (CCA) in its multiple form of presentation is highly infrequent. We here describe a Chilean patient with multiple lesions of CCA, the eight case reported by Iberoamerican authors in the available international literature. A 70-yearold male consulted for bilateral multiple erythematous mostly asymptomatic papules on his thighs and legs that had progressively appeared throughout 30 years. Histological examination of two papules confirmed the diagnosis of CCA. He was successfully treated with cryosurgery. An extensive review of the literature allowed us to find 54 reported cases of multiple CCA and to summarize its main epidemiologic, clinical, dermoscopic, histologic and therapeutic findings. The diagnosis of multiple CCA must be suspected in a patient with gradual appearance of multiple red-brownish papules throughout years mainly on the lower limbs. Although the typical clinical and dermoscopic findings point to the diagnosis, this must be confirmed by a histologic study of an entire papule.
