Over the last 20 years a renaissance of pediatric regional
anesthesia has occurred. Although regional anesthesia is rarely employed as the sole means of providing surgical anesthesia for pediatric patients, it is increasingly used in combination with general anesthesia to reduce the amount of general anesthetics administered, attenuate the stress response of surgery, facilitate a rapid emergence from general anesthesia, and most importantly to provide incomparable postoperative analgesia.
