The coronavirus pandemic has shaken public health authorities around the world and raised questions about health sector preparedness in responding to infectious disease outbreaks. As of December 7, 2020, more than 66 million cases had been reported globally, and more than 1.5 million people have died from the infection in 219 nations and territories. [1,2] The hard lesson is that preparedness must be urgently improved, including case detection through better surveillance; improved laboratory diagnostic facilities; more and better-equipped isolation wards and treatment facilities; increased supply and better distribution of personal protective equipment; more effective risk communication; and adoption of community engagement action plans.REFERENCES
