ABSTRACT
Cervical abscesses are mainly caused by odontogenic infection, although they can have other origins. They can
be complicated by mediastinitis, sepsis, shock, and death. Osteomyelitis is an unusual complication. Diagnosis is
integrated by the patient’s symptoms, imaging and laboratory findings. Treatment includes surgical debridement
and antibiotic therapy directed to isolated bacteria. The antibiotic schedule for osteomyelitis is four to six weeks,
although each case must be individualized and follow-up can be done with a gammagram. Here we report a case
of cervical abscess that was complicated by osteomyelitis due to
Enterococcus faecalis.
