ABSTRACT
The maxillofacial region is vulnerable to trauma because it is the most exposed anatomical area of the body. The systematic follow-up of facial trauma allows the implementation of protocols for the prevention and treatment of these injuries, and the development of tools to predict the severity of maxillofacial trauma in emergency care. They try to characterize the prognostic tools of the severity of maxillofacial trauma in emergency care. A bibliographic review was carried out from October 2018 to January 2019. Articles in impact journals, books, specialized websites, in Spanish, English and Portuguese were reviewed, prioritizing those published in the last 5 years. The databases MEDLINE, Ebsco, PubMed, Scielo, ClinicalKey were consulted, using the descriptors: "Trauma Severity Indices", "Maxillofacial Injuries", "Traumatology", "Indexes". We analyzed 50 articles, circumscribing the revision to 27, which better described the elements studied. The Cooter David score, the severity score of maxillofacial injuries, the scale of severity of facial injuries, the scale of severity of facial fractures, and the ZS model, are the main predictive instruments of severity of the facial region. The incidence and prevalence of trauma is on the rise in the world. Prognostic tools for the severity of maxillofacial trauma have been developed, with their advantages and disadvantages. In Cuba, there is no evidence of the use of these prognostic instruments in our specialty.REFERENCES
