ABSTRACT
Introduction. Human memory is brain function resulting from synaptic connections between neurons, through which the human being can retain past experiences. In the field of memory, the process of recovery or recall consists of the evocation of events, events or information stored in the past. From an information processing point of view, this is one of the three main processes of memory, along with encoding and storage.
Methods. A pre-experimental study was carried out on a sample of 30 adult patients with traumatic brain injury, who presented difficulties in finding the key that would make it easier for them to find the stored information, difficulty in finding "clues" to locate the information that remains inaccessible to solve the problem. the task, to which a series of activities aimed at working on the detected deficit was applied, using the Mini-mental state examination in English as the evaluation protocol, which was applied at the beginning and at the end of the intervention. The median was used as a descriptive summary measure, and the Wilcoxon signal and rank test was used to compare the results at the beginning and end of the study.
Results. The average age of the sample studied was 35.3 years, 18 men and 12 women and an evolution time of 6.5 years. Improvement was found in all the items, mainly in those that were initially most affected. In general, there was a considerable increase in fingerprint retention that moved from a median of 21 in the initial score to a median of 24.5 at the end, from a score of 30 (p <0.001).
Conclusions. It was observed that the recovery of the information previously stored was one of the processes that had the most affectation in these people with neurological sequelae, contributing the intervention strategy applied to improve the deficit in the group of investigated subjects.
