ABSTRACT
Trichosporonosis is a rare fungal infection, with high mortality in immunocompromised patients, its presentation in immunocompetent patients is even rarer. We present the case of a 66-year-old male immunocompetent patient who presented pneumonia, secondary to a perforation in the gastrointestinal tract and invasive respiratory support, with the unfavorable outcome and extended stay in the intensive care unit, until positive culture for Trichosporon asahii was reported and specific treatment was administered.
